History of the Committee of One Thousand
The war effort of World War I was not fought solely by soldiers in Europe. Instead, it was fought everyday in homes and factories across America. In Schenectady, patriotism didn't mean waving a flag in the window.

Schenectady Works not only built the powerful turbines for ships that helped win the war, but they also raised millions of dollars for the war effort.

The Committee of One Thousand from the Schenectady Works of the General Electric Company raised over $9,000,000 for Liberty Bonds, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Y. M. C. A., Knights of Columbus and other war funds.
